satisfactory results of dysport treatment

Galderma’s Dysport is a trusted biopharmaceutical used in aesthetic treatments worldwide. Approved by FDA, this high-performance neuromodulator is a safe, effective, non-surgical treatment that relaxes facial muscles, reducing and smoothing frown lines, fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful appearance with only two treatments per year.

The main ingredient of Dysport is a highly purified botulinum A-type, a neurotransmitter blocker that treats overactive muscles and helps achieve a smoother and younger-looking face. After more than a decade of clinical validation and continuous development, it has obtained licences and registrations in more than 60 countries.

Since the treatments are quick, convenient and minimally invasive, it allows patients to resume their daily activities without significant downtime. By infiltrating small controlled amounts of Dysport into the muscles, nerve signals are blocked to relax muscle and make the dynamic lines disappear. The effects are long-lasting, with multiple treatments to achieve permanent results.

Our Review of LifeHub’s IV Drip Treatment For Glowing Skin https://thehkhub.com/lifehub-skin-glow-iv-drip-review/ Thu, 09 Dec 2021 06:00:00 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=46505 When we first got the email about LifeHub’s IV drip treatment, we thought the name must be a gimmick. There aren’t actual needles involved, are there? But a Google search revealed otherwise. In the last five to 10 years, IV therapy for quick delivery of skin, hair, and bodily function-benefitting vitamins has started to become more popular in beauty clinics.

A brave colleague volunteered to try the treatment. There were jokes about life extension and gaining superpowers (Eternals had just been released, and if anyone is timeless beauty goals, it’s Salma Hayek), but in a quite real way we anxiously awaited her regular reports from the clinic.

What is IV drip therapy?

IV fluid drips are commonly seen in hospitals, where they inject hydrating fluids and/or nutrients and vitamins into a patient’s vein. However, in recent years IV therapy has expanded into the world of beauty. They first gained popularity as a quick hangover treatment. Now, clinics offer customized nutrient blends, claiming benefits ranging from from strengthening the skin’s collagen bonds for brighter, healthier-looking skin, to promoting fat loss by speeding up metabolism.

Nutrients delivered by the intravenous injection are absorbed directly by the bloodstream rather than through the middleman of the digestive tract, which is supposed to mean quicker results. However, there isn’t much research yet that shows the benefits of IV drip therapy in this beauty application.

The process

With this in mind, our correspondent went to try an IV drip targeting the skin at LifeHub, classified a “medical spa”. LifeHub offers multiple IV drip treatments with different target results, like the Super Immunity Boost ($2,080) and Healthy Hair ($2,780) drips. The Skin Glow IV drip ($2,580) is meant to brighten and lighten the skin, strengthen weak hair and nails, and detoxify the body.

The treatment began with an initial consultation during which all our questions about the process were patiently answered (we had many; about how it works exactly, what practical claims can be made about the benefits, how it would feel mid-treatment). Then, another consultant evaluated overall health before approving the treatment, asking about medicine allergies, pregnancy status, and major surgery history.

treatment chair at lifehub central

Once the patient had been cleared for the treatment, the IV drip was administered in a comfortable, window-facing curtained-off seat. Herbal tea was provided during the 45-minute procedure, during which 500mL of fluid containing B+ Complex vitamins, vitamin C, antioxidants, and a mix of other vitamins was delivered. The accompanying nurse went above and beyond to make sure the experience was comfortable.

The results

Our colleague, a member of Gen Z, has relatively clear skin already, so she didn’t notice obvious differences between her pre- and post-treatment skin. We were aware from the beginning that different people have different responses to IV therapy, so this didnt come as a big surprise.

It may be helpful to think of IV drip therapy as a regular maintenance treatment combating issues from the inside out. An inner glow sprouting from the overall benefit of absorbing extra vitamins and antioxidants into the body.

We think we would have seen more noticeable results if our test subject had more wrinkles and fine lines. Alternatively, outcomes would likely be more apparent after further treatments. Any step in a beauty routine is most beneficial when done consistently, after all.

Our Review Of EstheClinic’s OXYPURE Oxygenation Facial https://thehkhub.com/estheclinic-oxypure-facial-review/ Thu, 18 Nov 2021 07:19:53 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=46499 I got the opportunity to try EstheClinic’s new OXYPURE facial treatment, a 3-in-1 exfoliation, antioxidant infusion, and oxygenation facial. First, a disclaimer: this was the first facial I’ve ever gotten. I am being completely impartial and giving my honest opinion, but it’s worth noting that I have no previous experiences to compare mine to.

What is an oxygenation facial?

Oxygenation or oxygen facials are a fairly new treatment where pressurized oxygen is sprayed onto exfoliated skin. The theory is that because cells need oxygen to work, this concentrated application of the molecule (usually paired with the application of other skin-benefitting creams) improves blood circulation, smooths wrinkles, and promotes collagen production.

EstheClinic’s OXYPURE works slightly differently. Using a machine called OxyGeneo which applies carbon dioxide to the epidermis, the treatment induces oxygen-rich blood to rise to the skin’s surface; this is supposed to make the skin brighter and bouncier. Effects should last for two weeks to a month.

My appointment at their new Sai Ying Pun location began with a consultation about the general benefits of the treatment and examining whether it would help me achieve the kind of skin I want (I specified I hoped to have a more even skin tone – has constant mask-wearing made anyone else’s face two different colours?). The therapist then examined my face, identifying dryness on my forehead and the borders of my face. I was told my skin tone would be fairer following the treatment, a natural effect of exfoliation.

I was also asked about what skincare products I use at home (I use coconut oil to clean make-up off or water on no-make-up days, followed by moisturizer). I was told I should use these four products at the bare minimum: cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and an exfoliant twice a week. I’m skeptical about exfoliant as I don’t experience much peeling. However, I have since incorporated toner into my routine because, as I learned, cleaning the face with tap water also alters my skin’s pH level.

Toner is supposed to rebalance the face’s pH after cleansing, along with other more lofty claims like tightening the skin’s cells and evening skin tone. If you don’t believe these claims, toner does at the very least catch the remnants of my makeup that haven’t been fully removed by cleanser. A softening lotion, sometimes used interchangeably with ‘toner’, is usually less astringent (read: drying) than toner and smooths and moisturizes the skin, prepping it to absorb subsequent products.

The process

woman getting oxypure facial at estheclinic

Before the treatment started, the therapist informed me she would focus on my freckles to remove excess pigmentation and buildup on my nose. First, my skin’s surface was exfoliated (no extraction is done as it’s considered too invasive), followed by a cooling cream that infuses antioxidants to promote anti-aging. During this step, there was a warm, itchy feeling in certain areas of my face, which the therapist warned me may happen. This was followed up with a reapplication of another cool cream, which was worked gently into my face using a machine… after which I promptly fell asleep. I’ll call it a testament to the luxury of being pampered, but for the readers who came for an actual review, EstheClinic helped fill the gaps in for me.

The OxyGeneo machine was used to create carbon dioxide bubbles that were massaged onto my skin, which supposedly draws blood and the oxygen-carrying blood to the surface of the skin. Estheclinic’s oxygenation effect is supposedly more effective than standard oxygen facials as it stimulates internal oxygenation.

When I looked in the mirror afterwards, I was shocked to see the therapist had left my eyeliner untouched. The process had felt so thorough, I’d been sure that it had been wiped clear away. I found this really thoughtful, especially since I had another engagement to go to after my treatment.

My skin glowed for the rest of the day with its introduction to luxury spa products, but I was more impressed by the effects I noticed for days afterwards. My skin tone was noticeably more even and my freckles had definitely lightened in an aesthetically pleasing way. When I woke up in the morning, my skin looked more alive and showed more natural colour than it usually does before I start moving a bit. However, this was likely a combined effect of the facial and the addition of toner to my daily routine.

The outcomes

Here are my takeaways from my OXYPURE facial: I noticed an overall balancing of skin tone and a moisturizing effect that lasted around a week and a half, which was within my expectation, given that I was recommended to get the facial biweekly in my first month. I believe adding toner to my routine stretched the benefits of the treatment even longer, as after more than two weeks I’ve noticed an overall improvement in skin elasticity compared to my pre-treatment skin.

I’ve never felt the need to get spa treatments, believing holistic home care was more important than expensive one-offs. But after this first experience I am eager to explore treatments that may help me get the expedited effects that I can’t achieve on my own.

Sometimes a centering experience to break up daily life is just necessary.

Whether you are looking for a quick refresh on your lunch break or an all-out pampering experience, we’ve got you covered with these five luxurious, but not necessarily outrageously priced, spa concepts in Central.

F L O A T Co.

float co floating therapy pod hong kong
Personalize lighting and music in your pod (© F L O A T Co.)

For an unconvential spa experience, F L O A T Co. specializes in float therapy, which involves floating in a futuristic pod to limit sensory input. The purported benefits of float therapy, a relatively new field that grew into public view around the 50s, are tension and stress relief sprouting from the experience of being totally physically supported (you are made buoyant by the addition of epsom salt), yet free.

Experience varies from person to person, as the pods are more of a medium to eliminate the outside world and go inwards. But it’s generally accepted that floating weightlessly helps the body to relax back into its natural state from ways that our bodies may be compensating from regular or chronic pain, which often manifest as back and neck discomfort. However, you don’t need to suffer from pain to see benefits: the biggest impact is most often a vastly improved mental state.

The only spa in Asia following in the footsteps of the Peninsula to offer luxury anti-ageing facials by Margy’s Monte Carlo, and the only spa in Hong Kong offering the Eve Lom Facial ($2,180) spearheaded by Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Pamper DPT boasts high quality treatments with a foundation of high quality essential oils and a focus on holistic wellness.

Unique treatments on offer include the Tibetan singing bowl sound therapy ($550) and deep relaxation vibration treatment ($1,100). The Right Spot is built to offer the luxury of an expensive hotel spa with the efficiency and affordability of your local foot and body massage spa. Their therapists specialize in different fields, with either an aromatherapy certification or decades of experience in traditional Chinese medicine methods such as cupping.

Their signature Ultimate Aromatherapy Experience ($1,280) starts with a consultation about your physical, mental, and emotional state – because they know issue treatment goes beyond the skin. This is followed by an oil consultation to identify the key ingredients that will treat individuals’ specific functional issues and suit smell preference. During non-COVID times, The Right Spot also supports local artists by displaying their work, which also works to enhance the tranquility of the atmosphere.

SOVOS Aromatherapy

SOVOS’ foundation is bontanical aromatherapy certification (© SOVOS)

SOVOS Aromatherapy understands that the more thoroughly you understand a client’s needs, the more you can do for them. Their treatments, centered around the principles of certified botanical aromatherapy, are personalized to each individual. For example, they understand that deep tissue massage is not suitable during pregnancy as it’s recommended to avoid overstimulating acupuncture points, although deep tissue massage offers more instant relief for pregnancy-related aches (the Pregnancy Massage starts at $780).

Factors like this are taken into consideration to make sure they’re providing sustainable, long-term relief, not just treating symptoms. The complicated science of creating targeted combinations of herbal blends has been mastered insofar as the still young science of aromatherapy understands, as all SOVOS therapists are International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists-certified.

Ready, Steady, Party! https://thehkhub.com/lifestyle-christmas-party-hair-nail-beauty-prep-glow-hong-kong/ Fri, 06 Dec 2019 02:20:58 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=32374 With less than 3-weeks to go until Christmas, the season is undoubtedly one of the busiest times of the year. All Christmas celebrations, dinners, parties, and cocktails that are now filling the social calendar, not to mention the gift buying, entertaining relatives, kids Christmas concerts, and grocery preparation make for a crazy few weeks. So how do we possibly carve out time to keep ourselves looking and feeling fantastic?

We talk to the team a Glow to get some expert tips on how to make sure we don’t end up looking like a character left over from Halloween, instead of the cheerful, joyful and radiant picture of grace and elegance we’d all like to be.

‘Gram’able Glamour at Every Flash

woman getting hair cut

65-million selfies are uploaded onto social media every day, so how do you sustain a ‘Gram’able glamour look from now through New Year? At minimum, Glow suggests booking (and keeping) your hair appointment now, if you have not already done so! A decent hair cut should still look great in 8 weeks so you’ll sail through the season with a decent hair cut at the very least. Lock in your appointment, and get it out the way freeing up your schedule for the other fun stuff.

If time permits, touch up your colour, freshen your highlights, and if you’re feeling especially time-indulgent, try out some extensions for a foolproof way to stay on-point at all times. Extensions require less attention, give you length, volume and colour that’ll take you through the holidays without damaging your hair.

Sooth Dry & Damaged Hair

woman with frizzy hair

Cooler weather usually means drier weather and drier weather usually means drier hair. Dry hair has the tendency to lose its gloss and has the appearance of being dull, lacklustre and frizzy.

Glow has several recommendations to give your hair a boost and restore the silky shine. For a quick, at-home fix, use a hair masque. These super-hydrating treatments will feed and nourish your hair and restore the shine and gloss. At Glow we love the bhave™ deep intense conditioning masque. It contains certified organic Argan oil, macadamia oil and vitamin E, and is particularly beneficial for stressed, coloured or damaged hair. It provides intense moisture and helps repair and restore elasticity, improves strength and boosts shine, plus it is free from parabens.

In the salon

For a more complete solution, pamper yourself with an in-salon hair treatment. We have several options at Glow:

Bhave Rescue uses Replicine Functional Keratin, which is the only commercially available fully functional keratin protein that has been extracted using a patented technology from pure New Zealand wool. This treatment will restore and repair damage, and nourish and calm frizz. Its takes about an 75-90 minutes and costs $780. Results last for 5-6 weeks.

Goldwell Kerasilk and bhave Smooth PLUS Keratin treatments are very popular in HK for managing dry and frizzy hair. Two of the most popular treatments are Goldwell Kerasilk treatment and the Bhave Smoothe Plus treatment. The keratin saturates the hair, adding nourishment, strength elasticity and shine and when heat is applied it smoothens the cuticle so the hair appears glossy and very healthy.

Both treatments are formaldehyde free and applied to the hair and not the scalp so they are first the choice of many pregnant and breastfeeding mums. Read more advice on choosing the right smoothing and straightening hair treatments here.

Glow is offering HK HUB readers, 10% off all smoothing treatments between now and December 31, 2019. Quote HKHUBSMOOTH when making your appointment to redeem this offer.

On-Trend Christmas Nails

Christmas nails

One of the quickest, easiest and most affordable ways to brighten up your look and get into the Christmas spirit is with a festive manicure.

Like hairdressers, nail technicians also have their busiest time of the year from late November to January, so book in your appointments now. If you are someone who likes to get your nails done very few weeks, book your appointments in advance to avoid last minute disasters.

Glow has the latest range of Shellac, Bandi and OPI colours fo the 2019 winter season that are a gorgeous range of beautiful deep reds, coppers, golds, and dark blues in either polish or gel. Glow’s nail technicians can also add a little festive flair to your tips, or some extra sparkle for a more eye-catching look.

Bat Those Lashes and Raise those Brows!

lashes & brows

We can’t think of a better time to enhance your look with lusciously long lashes than at Christmas. If you needed an reason to treat yourself to lash extensions, the party season is the perfect excuse.

Strand-by-strand eyelash extensions are all the rage and add extra brilliance to your eyes for full glamorous impact that are absolutely beautiful. Better still, lash extensions look great with or without make up. They define the eye area and help to make your eyes look bigger.

The lashes are applied individually and a full set typically takes 90 minutes to apply and will last for 4-5 weeks before they need to be reapplied/filled in.  The lashes are usually made from synthetic silk or synthetic mink fibre and are very close in texture to a natural eyelash.

Sioban believes it’s vital that you question your eyelash extension technician before having lashes applied. This is not a treatment where you should try to skimp and save money. Ensure that the salon is using a professional, medical grade adhesive to ensure a light, natural look and feel to your lashes. It’s essential that you’re confident that strict hygiene management practices are applied in the salon. It’s important to enjoy those luscious lashes without any allergies or irritations!

For the extra ‘Wow’ factor, don’t forget the Brow. If you struggle with patchy or less than impressive brows, now might be a good time to consider microblading. Avoid the sharpie-drawn look and invest in the very natural, semi-permanent, non-invasive treatment that requires next-to-no maintenance and lasts up to 2 years. Glow proudly works with Elizabeth Lonneborn, arguably one of the most experienced and professional brow artists in the city who was trained by Laura Mercier herself and studied Microblading in Hollywood.

Look Tantastic!

A quick trick to looking and feeling fantastic, especially in bare-arm cocktail dresses, is by having a beautiful tanned glow! Spray tanning allows you to have that sun-kissed, “just back from the beach” look all year round, without the harmful UV effects from sun exposure and tanning beds.

If you decide to spray tan this Christmas, we recommend that you choose a professional salon tanning brand, applied by an experienced therapist in the salon to ensure an even and streak free look.

Professional spray tans develop to a beautiful colour these days and most salon professional brands offer an express (2 hours) or an overnight (10-12 hours) option. Typically your tan will last 10-14 days with good care, and will fade very evenly over this period. To prolong the tan, we highly recommend using a tan extender or gradual tan.

Keep Skin Hydrated Inside & Out

water glass

Drink lots…….. lots of WATER! Christmas cocktails flow freely and frequently over the silly season but don’t forget how dehydrating alcohol is so make sure you drink plenty of water alongside your booze. We also tend to indulge a little heavier on the food and desserts so water will help with your kidney function to eliminate the toxins from your skin and body and will help digestion to avoid bloating. So if you want to fully enjoy imbibing over the holidays, drink plenty of WATER.

Aside from overindulging with food and booze, cooler weather typically brings lower humidity which dries out our skin too. Keeping on top of your water intake and scheduling a regular nourishing facial every 4 weeks will help promote a clear, well-hydrated complexion and will help your skin look fresher and younger.

Laser Hair Removal in Hong Kong: Everything You Need to Know https://thehkhub.com/laser-hair-removal-in-hong-kong-everything-you-need-to-know-to-find-the-best-salon/ Thu, 24 Oct 2019 03:00:22 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=32769 Tips on Finding The Best Laser Hair Removal Solution for You

Before you retire your razor or put your waxing fund on time deposit for the winter, think again. The winter months are the best time to start laser hair removal so it is a perfect time, to think about a more permanent solution to unwanted body hair.

Laser hair removal requires some commitment, so before you begin, it is essential to be fully informed. Thankfully, Sioban Guilfoyle, owner of Glow Spa & Salon is here to give us the full low down on what laser hair removal involves, what to expect, and what to avoid.

Whilst laser and light therapies for aesthetic treatments are largely unregulated in Hong Kong, there is positive news; there are a number of reputable salons and clinics in the city providing laser hair removal treatments who ensure their therapists are fully qualified and implement best practices, including the team at Glow Spa & Salon.

At Glow, all of the therapists are fully trained estheticians and hold internationally recognised qualifications in light and laser therapies. In addition to the excellent service, the Glow team applies best practice, and uses a suite of brand new laser machines, to ensure the best treatment outcome and a safe and comfortable experience which is as close to being pain-free as possible.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

The results vary by individual. After completing a course of laser hair removal, many clients report a permanent result and having no hair regrowth for many years. Some clients, might require a touch-up treatment once every one or two years, and a few may need a touch up more frequently.

While often described as “permanent” hair removal, the correct description for this type of hair removal is permanent hair reduction.

What does Laser Hair Removal feel like?

Modern laser machines are powerful, quick and designed for comfort with highly effective cooling systems, to rapidly cool the skin and surrounding tissue, ensuring minimal discomfort. Most people will experience some sensation, more especially around sensitive areas of the body. The feeling is similar to a hairbrush rolling against your skin, or a rubber band snap.

Occasionally, clinics may recommend the use of numbing creams or mild painkillers before the treatment. At Glow, the combination of experienced therapists, new laser machines, listening to client feedback and observing the reaction of the hair follicle and surrounding skin will allow the therapist to find the safest and most effective setting for your skin tone.

An important thing to remember is that there is no correlation between the amount of pain felt and the treatment’s effectiveness. You cannot reduce the number of treatments required or get quicker results by increasing the intensity. The success of laser hair removal depends on a combination of the correct light intensity, the time between treatments and the number of treatments performed.

Is Laser Hair Removal Suitable For Me?

You will see the best results when you have dark hair in the treatment area combined with a lighter skin pigmentation; however, laser hair removal technology has come a long way in recent years. Both lighter hair and darker complexions are now also treatable without any need for exotic and expensive equipment.

The most commonly used lasers are the diode 808 nm and 810 nm laser. Considered the gold standard in laser hair removal, these lasers are suitable for use on most hair colours and skin tones — including tanned and darker skin tones.

underarm hair removal laser

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments required will vary by individual, depending on the skin tone, the coarseness of the hair, the skin pigmentation, the time between treatments and more.

At Glow, we usually see a 70% hair reduction or better, within 4–5 treatments for most clients. The recommended period between treatments is four to six weeks, and Glow suggests booking the first three treatments at four to five-week intervals. As you move into the later portion of treatments, you might find you can wait longer between visits

As a guide, Glow offers courses of six treatments for new treatment areas, followed by twelve-months of complimentary touch-up sessions if required. Glow also offers single-session treatments for touch-ups and for new treatment areas.

Is This Treatment Suitable For Men?

Yes – laser is suitable for men. With male hair removal becoming increasingly popular, laser hair removal is an ideal treatment for those wanting a smooth chest or stomach or hair-free back and shoulders. The treatment is suitable for almost anywhere on the body, including underarms, ears, sideburns and legs and intimate areas.

There are specialist men’s clinics for the treatment of more intimate areas, if the gent prefers, and most professional clinics or salons can give you a recommendation if required.

Do I Need a Consultation With The Therapist First?

The purpose of the consultation is to ensure you are a suitable candidate for laser hair removal, to discuss the procedure and ensure you understand the risks, the treatment schedule, the expected treatment outcomes, to answer any questions you may have, to discuss price and to do a patch test if you desire.

The consultation also provides an opportunity to meet your esthetician. At this first meeting, ask as many questions as possible to ensure you are completely comfortable with the environment, and the knowledge and professionalism of your therapist.

Expect to complete a client consultation form and Fitzpatrick skin type questionnaire. You may also find additional questions about your regular sun exposure, the possibility of being pregnant, whether you are breastfeeding, have thyroid or hormonal imbalances and other health issues. At Glow, your therapist will discuss the risks of the treatment and ensure you are aware of the pre-treatment precautions and post-treatment care.

While it is very important to understand the cost of the treatment and any offers that may be available, this consultation time should not be a high-pressure selling experience. Your therapist should be just as happy for you to pay for one session as for six.

If you are comfortable with the environment and your therapist, it is perfectly acceptable to complete your first treatment at this visit.

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe? What Are The Risks? What Are The Side Effects?

Every so often, treatment may result in redness, slight irritation, crusting or scab formation, purpura (purple colouring of the skin), and temporary pigment change (hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation).

Occasionally, even though appropriate settings have been used, laser hair removal can cause changes in skin texture. In some other rare cases, greying of treated hair may occur, and paradoxically in very rare cases, laser treatment may stimulate hair to grow excessively in or around treated areas. Most of these treatment outcomes are very rare.

Care must be taken when using a laser (or any light treatment) on a tattooed area, as the intense light may affect the colour of the tattoo. Standard practice is to mask off tattoos with light coloured, opaque tape to ensure there is no damage to the tattoo or the tattooed skin.

The combination of the right salon, the right therapist or clinician, and the right laser machine, for you and your skin type, will significantly reduce your risk of injury when you have a hair removal treatment.

IPL and laser hair removal is not recommended around the eye area due to the possibility of severe eye injury. During your treatment, standard practice is for your therapist to provide you with a pair of goggles to ensure there is no risk of accidental exposure to the high-intensity light.

What Do I Need To Do Or Avoid Before And After My Treatment?

For the treatment to be effective, the hair root must be intact. This requirement means you should avoid waxing, epilation, plucking or any other hair removal technique that disturbs the hair root for four to five weeks before your first treatment. Typically this means shaving as the only option in the few weeks before their first treatment.

It is best to ensure there is some hair growth before your first treatment, so if you do shave, try not to shave for the final 3–4 days prior to your appointment. Your therapist will help you shave the area prior to your first treatment.

Prior to your treatments and for two to three days afterwards, you should avoid exposing the treated area to the sun.

The treatment should never be performed on wind-burnt or sunburned skin. Advise your therapist if you have recently used a sunbed as treatments should not be done two weeks either side of a sunbed session.

Some skin treatments, including those containing Retinol A, can make the skin more photosensitive; we recommend you stop using Retinol A or similar creams at least two weeks before your hair reduction treatment. If you are taking any medication that increases light sensitivity, it is essential to inform your therapist prior to commencing treatments.

High-intensity exercise is not recommended immediately after your laser treatment. During a laser hair removal treatment, applying heat to the skin results in erythema (redness) and follicular oedema (swelling of the follicles). These temporary side effects persist for approximately 12 – 24 hours. It is important to keep the skin cool after your treatment, as the follicles are heat sensitive at this time. Avoid any activity that may bring any further heat to the skin. Additionally, physical exercise typically triggers sweating, and sweat contains bacteria which may aggravate the sensitive hair follicles, resulting in a rash or skin infection. This is particularly important in Hong Kong. If you have treatments over the summer, try to plan so that you are in a cool and air-conditioned environment as soon as possible after your treatment.

To avoid skin irritation, wear loose, cool clothing after your treatment. If you can avoid skinny jeans and tight leggings, do so. Have a lukewarm shower rather than a hot shower and avoid creams, moisturisers, oils and perfumes on the treated area for 12 – 24 hours after your treatment.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

Laser hair removal can vary in price from clinic to clinic and differs between men and women. As a guide, you should plan on spending between $4,000 – $6,000 for a full course of treatment for your underarm and between $25,000 – $30,000 for a full course of treatment for your legs.

Laser hair reduction is not a treatment to book based on price alone – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Tips For Finding the Right Salon or Clinic For You

Choose the salon or clinic that makes you feel most confident and where you feel that your results and safety are top priority and they demonstrate as much. Do your research and don’t hesitate to ask questions. There are no silly questions when it comes to your safety, and the salon manager or your therapist should be prepared to give you as much information and time as you need without pressuring you into making a decision.

Avoid clinics with high-pressure sales tactics. Prices are important, but should not be the only criteria influencing your purchase decision.

Do a patch test before your first treatment, if you would like to feel what the full treatment will be like. Clinics should be happy to perform these at no charge.

Your therapist should also be able to give you an indication of how many sessions you would need. If it is a new treatment area, you should expect to purchase at least 5 treatments. While you may require touch-up sessions after your course is complete, it is unlikely that you need to purchase more than one course of treatment for the same area.

This Fabulous Waxing Salon is one of Central’s Hidden Gems https://thehkhub.com/dolma-waxing-boutique-this-fabulous-waxing-salon-is-one-of-centrals-hidden-gems/ Wed, 05 Dec 2018 03:18:22 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=38066 Is this the best waxing salon in Hong Kong?

Headed up by bone-fide waxing royalty, the eponymous Dolma Waxing Boutique is the only number you need on speed-dial for all your hair-removal needs.

Dolma’s extensive experience as a beauty therapy working in the Middle East has enabled her to work with a wide range of clients over the years, including as a personal beautician to royalty. Returning to Hong Kong in 1997, Dolma worked in a number of the city’s top spas, before realising that what Hong Kong really lacked was a specialist hair removal salon. Establishing Dolma Waxing Boutique, Dolma has cemented her reputation as Hong Kong’s best waxing therapist, with clients travelling from all over the city to experience her unsurpassed service, efficiency and results.

Dolma waxing

But what is it about Dolma Waxing Boutique that makes it stand out amid Hong Kong’s interminable number of spas and salons? Dolma’s laser-focus on the important business of hair removal has made her a true specialist in the field. While you won’t find hairdressing, manis or massages on the menu at Dolma’s, this commitment to perfecting the art of the wax (eyebrow threading is also available), has enabled her to build her reputation as the hair-removal expert in Hong Kong.

Whether you’re a waxing newbie or a seasoned pro, you can be confident that you’re in safe hands with Dolma. Using only the best quality hot wax, Dolma Waxing Boutique’s therapists offer the closest thing available to a pain-free wax; in fact, the procedure is so fast as to be barely noticeable – prefect for those who are new to waxing or who have previously had unpleasant experiences elsewhere. Prices are also affordable at Dolma’s – a Brazilian wax is priced at just HK$350, takes 15 minutes, and lasts between three and six weeks, minimising time and money spent on follow-up appointments.

Dolma Waxing salon room

And notwithstanding the excellent value for money, meticulous hygiene is always assured at Dolma Waxing Boutique. The spotlessly clean salon is comfortable and welcoming, and Dolma personally guarantees there is never any double dipping with the waxing spatulas. In fact, Dolma is rigorous about protecting their clients’ health, urging that customers should always highlight any medical issues such as diabetes, skin conditions, weakened immunity, or whether they are taking any medications prior to waxing, in order for appropriate adjustments to be made to their treatment.

So what’s on the menu at this hidden hair-removal gem? While Dolma’s undisputed trademark remains her Brazilian wax, other options are available – from the increasingly popular “all-off” Hollywood style, to the more modest bikini wax. Also available are full- and half-leg leg, arm, underarm and facial waxing, along with expert eyebrow threading and brow and lash tinting, which offer a fully-defined flutter without the need for makeup.

Conveniently located in the heart of Central, right next to MTR exit C, Dolma Waxing is perfect for those of us who are pressed for time, offering convenient appointment times from 9am right the way up until 8pm, from Monday to Saturday. And with a full Brazilian wax taking an average of just 15 minutes, there’s always time to fit in that essential maintenance.
