This year’s edition of the festival will also have a new event called the H2 2024 Grass Roots Weekender to give up-and-coming Hong Kong-based acts a platform to show off their skills. The two-day event will see 25 bands take the stage from 4:15pm onwards for a minimum of 20 minutes.

The new two-day event features the acts who originally applied to be part of the H2 Festival 2024 line-up, but who could not find a spot there as the organisers say the showcase was “massively oversubscribed”. So they decided to add another weekend to feature bands like alt-grunge rock outfit Karmageddon, rock quintet Scars of Time, alternative/hard rock Filipino group Bebe’s Wish, and emo rock-indie pop duo HiBye. While several acts play original music, there are others that do covers, like Giorgio Manzoni who sings Ed Sheeran tracks, and The Pro Nouns who do under-appreciated rock B-sides.

The H2 Festival 2024 started as a one-night affair in 2010, and is one of the best platforms in the city for local artists to play live gigs. The event will now be in The Wanch’s new location at 90 Jaffe Road, which opened in 2022.

Lau has not taken the stage in the SAR since 2018, when he had to cancel several concerts citing ill health. He was supposed to hold a series of concerts in the territory in 2020, but cancelled them because of the Covid-19 pandemic. His forthcoming tour will comprise dates in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Chongqing in Mainland China. After that, he will perform in Macau, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei, and wind up the tour in the 852.

Andy Lau acquired legend status in the 1990s as one of Cantopop’s Four Heavenly Kings. He’s also been part of several movies that have gone down in history as some of Hong Kong cinema’s finest, such as Boat People, As Tears Go By, Infernal Affairs, and House of Flying Daggers. His most recent releases include The Goldfinger, which saw him team up with his Infernal Affairs co-star Tony Leung, and I Did It My Way. He was also honoured with a Special Tribute Award at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, where his film The Movie Emperor premiered.

S2O in Hong Kong: Dates, Venue, Line-Up, Tickets & All You Need to Know https://thehkhub.com/s2o-hong-kong/ Wed, 22 May 2024 09:19:53 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=62692 The world’s wettest party is returning to Hong Kong for the second year running. S2O will make a splash at Central Harbourfront on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, 9, 2024, where festival-goers will get to usher in the summer with water-splashing as they groove to beats by local and international artists. Read on to find out how to score a ticket to this hot event.

What is the S2O music festival?

S2O is a popular music festival that started in Bangkok in 2015, and takes inspiration from Songkran — the Thai New Year festivities in which water-splashing is the main highlight. In Thailand, it’s usually a three-day event that coincides with Songkran on April 13-15 every year, while the dates and duration vary in other cities every year. Hong Kong’s first S2O was a two-day event held in August 2023.

When and where is S2O in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong’s second S2O will be held at Central Harbourfront on June 8 and 9, 2024 — the weekend just before the Dragon Boat Festival. You can enter the festival venue from 1pm onwards, and the performers will take the stage from 2pm-11pm on both days.

What artists will perform at the Hong Kong S2O?

The DJs and artists will perform at two zones, and the biggest acts will be on the main stage. Festival-goers will be drenched in water, courtesy massive water guns on the stage. Here’s the artist line-up for the festival:

SATURDAY, JUNE 8SUNDAY, JUNE 9
DJ NewJeansNimAfrojack
AcrazeKayzo

The artist line-up for this year’s S2O in Hong Kong.

If you want to dry off, head to the non-wet Summer Beats Zone to listen to multi-platinum artist Lenny Pearce, DJ and girl group member of C Pink, Amber Na, China’s top DJ Aryue, and German music producer and DJ Cuebrick, among others.

What are the highlights of the Hong Kong S2O?

Apart from the main stage and Summer Beats Zone, this year’s festival will have Rap Shows & Dance Battles in which rappers and dancers will show off their skills in a series of contests. Head to the Glam Zone to get a sparkly waterproof look, and Food Village to get your fill of food and drinks as you party on!

How much are the tickets for the S2O Hong Kong?

General tickets for this year’s S2O in Hong Kong cost HK$980 (one-day pass) and HK$1,580 (two-day pass), and include access to general areas and wet zones. VIP tickets with access to a VIP entrance, dry zone, storage, and restrooms are priced at HK$1,880 (one-day pass) and HK$2,880 (two-day pass). All tickets are available on Klook. Early-bird tickets are already sold out.

Last year’s first S2O in Hong Kong had pyrotechnics, water guns and an eclectic artist line-up.

How do I get to S2O in Hong Kong?

Take the MTR to Central Station (Exit A) or Hong Kong Station (Exit A2) and walk towards Central Piers. Walk through IFC Mall towards Pier 10), cross the footbridge, and turn right towards the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. Walk past the wheel to get to the event venue on Lung Wo Road. You can also take a bus to Exchange Square and walk along Man Yiu Street towards the Central Piers, or board a ferry to any of the Central Piers.

S2O Hong Kong Music Festival 2024 flight ticket giveaway

As part of this year’s edition of the festival, the Hong Kong International Airport will give away 120 round-trip tickets to destinations like Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Beijing, and Shanghai, over a four-week period. All you have to do is give your most creative response to a weekly task announced on S20 Hong Kong’s official Instagram account to stand a chance to win a ticket. Winners will be informed of how and when to collect their tickets at the Hong Kong S2O next month.

Where To Watch The 2024 Dragon Boat Races In Hong Kong? https://thehkhub.com/dragon-boat-races-hong-kong/ Tue, 21 May 2024 05:48:03 +0000 https://thehkhub.com/?p=62638 The highlight of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Tuen Ng Festival, on June 10, 2024, are the races that will be held across the city. These events are seen as the culmination of multiple practices meant to drive away evil energy and invite clean energy into one’s life. We bring you a list of dragon boat races that you can watch in Hong Kong in 2024. While most of the competitions are on the day of the festival, which is a Monday, some others are on weekends preceding it or following it.

What is a dragon boat?

A dragon boat is a long, narrow, human-powered watercraft traditionally used in the sport of dragon boat racing, which originated in ancient China. These boats are usually made out of wood, although modern versions can be made from various materials, including fibreglass. The standout feature of a dragon boat is its decorative dragon head and tail, and it often features a drum at the front where a drummer sits to keep the paddlers in rhythm.

Dragon boat crews comprise paddlers, a steerer, and a drummer. Therefore, the boats vary in length, depending on their design and the number of rowers they carry. Standard dragon boats are usually around 40 feet long and can hold a crew of 22 people, while small dragon boats measure about 30 feet long and are designed to hold a crew of 12 people. A long dragon boat, which is a more traditional and ceremonial version, can be much longer than the standard racing boats — up to 90 feet long.

When the first-ever edition of The Next Wave was held in July 2023, there was a sea park and yachts available to rent. However, there were also several complaints about the event that the organisers plan to address this year, such as the limited floor plan, how the VIP booths blocked access to the beach, and the lack of lightning around the venue. The organisers are also considering adding a new zone for a special beach music festival experience and allowing festival-goers to bring water guns to use in specific areas of the venue.
